Advanced Workshop: Functional Analysis: Controlling Conditions to Determine Why Severe Behaviors Occur
|
When conducting functional behavior assessments to determine why severe behavior problems occur, most clinicians use interview strategies and antecedent-behavior-consequence analyses. Often the problem behaviors do not occur in the presence of the clinician, consequently these behaviors can not be analyzed to determine the function. The experimental manipulation of controlling variables, or functional analysis, can provide the solution to this challenge. The skilled clinician can set up situations that evoke the problem behaviors and reinforce these behaviors to determine what is controlling them. This workshop provides the participants with step-by-step directions on how to conduct this complex analysis in real school settings.
- When? May 30th, 2008, Registration: 8:30am, workshop: 9am-1pm
- Cost? This workshop is FREE and is entirely supported by funding made available through the Governor’s Initiative on Autism
- Who should attend? School psychologists, social workers, child study team members, teachers, parents, and clinicians
- What do the trainees get? We are providing FOUR HOURS of NJ Dept. of Education professional development credits for school personnel. Participants will receive handouts and certificates verifying professional hours of attendance. A continental breakfast will be provided.
